Wild Mushroom Foraging

Sunday, November 3rd from 10am - 3pm

The Pacific Northwest, especially Washington, is full of hidden treasures and a rich variety of edible mushrooms.

This class is suited for people of all levels of experience from total beginners to people with deep relationships with plants already.  Your instructor Leslie Lekos aims to empower students to be able to confidently identify edible and medicinal mushrooms and incorporate their health benefits into our diets and lives.

In October, the Saturday the focus of the class will be on edible mushrooms and the Sunday class will focus on medicinal mushrooms.

In November, the Saturday the focus of the class will be on medicinal mushrooms and the Sunday class will focus on edible mushrooms.

Harvests
We will spend each day exploring the many types of medicinal and edible wild mushrooms that are prolific in the Pacific Northwest.

Mushroom harvests in the past have consisted of morels, chanterelles, oyster mushrooms, shaggy manes, reishi, artist conk, turkey tail, red belted polypore and lobster mushrooms.

Instructor
The course is led by Leslie Lekos, director of Wildroot Botanicals.

Locations
We will be meeting within a 45 minute drive of Bellingham. An email will be sent prior to class with details.

Being Prepared for the Weather
We will be outside at our harvesting sites rain or shine.  It is important to always come to class prepared to be outside.  Good walking shoes are important as well as layers and rain gear for cold weather months.  Sunblock and hats are important for summer months.  It can also be useful to bring something to sit on and a water bottle for the day.

Lodging for Out of Town Guests
Several of our students come from out of town. We are located between Bellingham and Burlington/Mount Vernon so staying in either location is where students often choose to stay.

Cost
$55 for one day, or $100 for both days.

Adverse Conditions
Please note that if there are events beyond our control, such as illness, forest fire smoke, or extreme weather that compromise student safety then the school may reschedule a class to another date.
